WHO HAT e-tag Expert Committee meeting in January 2023

Veerle Lejon, Vincent Jamonneau, and Philippe Solano participated in a meeting of the WHO technical committee of experts for the elimination of human African trypanosomiasis caused by T. brucei gambiense (HAT e-TAG), in Geneva on January 17 and 18. The objective was to whrite out the terms of reference concerning "elimination as stopping the transmission", and the outline of the file that the countries (Ministry in charge of Health) will have to submit to the WHO to request verification of the stopping transmission.

The PNLTHA of Guinea has just made the evaluation of the last 10 years of fighting sleeping sickness during 4 days of meetings and field meetings with the main national and international partners supporting the program. The elimination of the disease as a public health problem was at the center of the debates with the next step in sight: stopping the transmission!

The PNLTHA and its historical partners held the annual steering committee of the TrypaNO project!

Tuesday, December 7, 2021, in Conakry, was held the steering committee of the TrypaNo! Project, funded by the BMGF which aims to eliminate sleeping sickness in Guinea. The members of the National Program for the Control of Human African Trypanosomiasis (PNLTHA) reviewed the activities developed during the year 2021 by presenting the data of the medical and entomological control, while focusing on the many projects of ancillary research which helps to improve this fight.

SFMTSI Scientific Day; "Control, elimination, eradication: where are we in NTDs?"

Our partner Dramane Kaba from IPR Bouaké and our researcher Vincent Jamonneau were invited to present the current situation of HAT in the elimination process as part of a scientific day of the SFMTSI ("Control, elimination, eradication, where are we in NTDs? ", videoconference, 11/25/2021) and based on the example of Côte d'Ivoire which has just validated the elimination as a public health problem.
